<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing antistatic cation-dyeable polyester nanofibers capable of being dyed with cation dyes. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for producing the polyester nanofibers includes eluting a sea component from a sea-island conjugated fiber made of two components having different solvent solubilities to produce the nanofibers comprising the island component, wherein the sea-island conjugated fiber satisfies the following requirements. (a) The average diameter of the island component in a cross section orthogonal to the axial direction of the sea-island conjugated fiber is 10 to 1,000 nm. (b) The island component is a polyester copolymerized with a specific ester-forming metal sulfonate compound in an amount of 0.1 to 10 mol% based on the total acid components constituting the island component.
