Provided, among other things, is a method of treating a wound comprising: periodically applying to the wound over a course of days an effective amount of a water based formulation (comprising: 0.5 to 5 wt % of an emollient comprising silicone oil, 2 to 10 wt % of fatty acid, humectant(s), emulsifying agent(s), and polymer(s)), wherein the formulation is formulated as a spray, cream, lotion, milk or foam-former.

1. A method of accelerating wound closure in a mammalian subject, the method comprising:
administering topically an effective amount of a water-based formulation to a wound that is selected from the group consisting of incisions, abrasions, lacerations, penetration wounds, burns, ulcerations, surgical wounds, and piercing wounds, the water-based formulation comprising: an emollient comprising a silicone oil or a petrolatum, a fatty acid comprising stearic acid, one or more humectants comprising one or more of a glycerol and a propylene glycol, one or more emulsifying agents comprising polysorbate 20, one or more hydrophilic polymers selected from the group consisting of: polyethylene glycol, starch, cellulose, and carbomers, and water, wherein the water-based formulation is formulated as a spray, cream, lotion, milk or foam-former, and wherein said administrating is for a time sufficient to substantially achieve wound closure.
