The invention relates to a data carrier, in particular a value or security document, having a window (14), which extends from a lower face (16) to an upper face (18) of the data carrier, and a film element (20) having a security element (22) that covers the window (14) on the upper face (18) of the data carrier, wherein a portion of the security element (22) lies over the window (14) and a portion of the security element (22) lies adjacent to the window (14).
