PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which enhances the accuracy of main scanning of a carriage by using a sub-tank system. SOLUTION: The carriage 4 is equipped with a recording head 11 and a sub-tank 15; an ink feed tube 16 is connected to the sub-tank 15; a timing belt 7, which is stretched between a driving pulley 6A and a driven pulley 6B, mounted on a main-scanning motor 5, is fixed to a belt connecting part 4a of the carriage 4; and the position of the timing belt 7 and that of the belt connecting part 4a of the carriage 4 deviate from positions where a tangent to the driving pulley 6A and a tangent to the driven pulley 6B are connected together, so that the carriage 4 can be brought into a state wherein tension in the direction (direction of an arrow a) of pressing the carriage 4 against a guide rod 2 to the upstream side in a sub-scanning direction is applied to the carriage 4 by the tensile force of the timing belt 7.
