<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the electrostatic discharge protection functionality capable of protecting a light emitting diode continually against the excessive current due to the electrostatic discharge. <P>SOLUTION: The light emitting diode package with the electrostatic discharge protection functionality incorporates a submount that is n-side electrode and p-side electrode in which the primary and secondary electrode patterns are formed on the top surface, a light emitting diode that is a primary conductive plate 221 attached on this submount wherein the n-side electrode and p-side electrode are linked with the primary and secondary electrode patterns respectively, a secondary conductive plate 222 having a region separated at given intervals to be superimposed with a certain region on the primary conductive plate in the perpendicular direction as well as the resiliency, and the MEMS switch 22 located on the submount wherein the primary conductive plate is linked with either of the primary or secondary electrode pattern while the secondary conductive plate is linked with the remaining electrode pattern. Upon application of the voltage exceeding the critical voltage between the primary and secondary electrode patterns, the primary and secondary conductive plates make contacts with each other by an electrostatic force. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
