PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an authentication system capable of authenticating a user of a photographic apparatus without accompanying a troublesome operation. SOLUTION: The user of a digital camera 20 is authenticated by transmitting data based on image data acquired by imaging to a server device 12 as data for registration by the digital camera 20, while storing the transmitted data for registration as data for authentication, transmitting the data for authentication to the server device 12 when the server device 12 is made to perform authentication, while storing the data for registration in a hard disk 18 when the data for registration is received from the digital camera 20 by the server device 12, reading the data for registration from the hard disk 18 and collating it with the received data for authentication when the data for authentication is received from the digital camera 20.
