PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image pickup apparatus capable of efficiently storing original image data having distortion aberration in consideration of subsequent operations. SOLUTION: The apparatus is provided with an optical system having distortion aberration characteristic of enlarging a center and compressing a periphery; an image sensor having a plurality of predetermined different color filters arranged on a light-receiving surface in a predetermined arrangement, and converting an object image into image data; a circuit for correcting pixel defects in the image data; a circuit for correcting white balance of the image data with a first level accuracy; a circuit for compressing the corrected image data; a device for storing the compressed image data; a circuit for decompressing the compressed image data; a circuit for correcting white balance of the decompressed image data at a second level higher than the first level; and a circuit for executing distortion aberration correction for the image data equivalent to an image angle designated from the outside among the decompressed image data.
