PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an effective solution to wrong action intended to take away an article. SOLUTION: The self-checkout terminal includes an article code reading device (for example, barcode scanner 203) for optically reading a code symbol affixed to the article, decoding and outputting the article code, an alarming device (for example, display pole 217 having an emission part 218) for generating an alarm and a pickup image part (for example, watch camera 205) for picking up an image of an area where an article, the code symbol of which is read is located and for outputting pickup image data. When the barcode scanner 203 reads the code symbol, an extraction process is executed for extracting an exterior characteristic of the article from the pickup image data output by the watch camera 205, while consistency is determined between first data which is obtained based on the extraction process and second data which is obtained based on an output from the barcode scanner 203 and which should be matched to the first data.
