An effect pigment, a method for preparing the effect pigment, and its use as a skin corrector in cosmetic formulation are provided to improve the optochemical or thermochemical stability on the surface and to reduce or remove the tendency for forming a complex with an organic material in formulation. An effect pigment comprises a layer package which comprises an iron oxide and/or iron oxohydrate layer, and SiO2 and/or Al2O3 or its hydrate layer, or a layer package which comprises a mixed oxide, hydroxide oxohydrate or dual hydroxide of the formula represented by M1_v M2_w O_x (OH)y X_z, and a SiO2 and/or Al2O3 or its hydrate layer, wherein M1 is Fe; M2 is Mg(II), Ca(II), Sr(II), Ba(II), Ti(III/IV), Zr(IV), Cr(III), Fe(II/III), Co(II/III), Ni(II), Cu(II), Ag(I), Zn(II), Al(III), Ga(III), Sn(II/IV), Sb(III/IV) or Bi(III); X is Cl^-, NO3^-, SO4^2- or CO3^2-; v is 1-3; w is 0-3;. x is 0-6; y is 0-12; z is 0-1; v+w>0; and x+y>0.
