This invention relates to a device for and method of demosaicing digital image data, the method comprising providing a first (R), a second (B) and at least a third part (G; G1; G2) comprising colour intensity values, each part (R; G; B; G1; G2) comprising colour intensity values of a single colour according to a predetermined pattern of a predetermined resolution, wherein the method further comprises for each part (R; G; B; G1; G2) deriving a gradient image representing gradients (ˆ‡ f ) and a curvature image representing curvature of constant intensity (º) based on the colour intensity values of the specific part (R; G; B; G1; G2), deriving a further gradient image comprising gradient values from said gradient images for each part, where the further gradient image has a gradient value for substantially each pixel, and deriving a further curvature image of constant intensity comprising values from said curvature images for each part, where the further curvature image has a curvature value for substantially each pixel, for each part (R; G; B; G1; G2) interpolating missing colour intensity values based on said further gradient image and said further curvature image of constant intensity. In this way, a demosaicing process is enabled with improved image quality that may be faster than iterative demosaicing processes. |
