<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader in which only by holding a document having a blank surface at a predetermined position in a plurality of documents, a document corresponding to the blank surface is identified as the break position of a file and the file can be efficiently and easily generated while being divided at the predetermined break position. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image reader includes: an automatic document feeder 10X for feeding one or more documents D along predetermined feeding routes R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 one by one; a first image reading section 71 provided in the feeding routes R1, R2, R3, R4, R5 for reading an image on one side of the document D and converting the read image into image data; a break document identification section 15 for identifying a document corresponding to the blank surface as break documents c2, c3 on the basis of image data of the plurality of documents D; and an image storage section 32 for storing image data of documents before and after the break documents c2, c3 as different files.
