<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guardrail detection device which is mounted on a vehicle and can detect road side fixed objects on both sides of the vehicle with high accuracy. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A distance image sensor acquires the distance image of a determination target object on a vehicle side, a template distance image is generated in accordance with the traveling position of the vehicle in a width direction (executing processing of a step S5), the degree of matching of the generated template distance image with the acquired distance image is calculated, and whether the determination target object is a guardrail is determined (executing processing from a step S11 to a step S13) on the basis of the calculated degree of matching.
