<p>Methods for treating and/or preventing non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) in subjects having or at substantial risk of developing NIDDM, using specific retinoid compounds that are structurally related to 9-cis retinoid acid which induce the differentiation of preadipocytes into adipocytes, are provided. These compounds may be administered alone or in combination with other anti-diabetogenic agents such as thiazolidinediones.</p> |
