The invention relates to the gas and oil industry, in particular to abandonment of wells which accomplished the functions thereof. The inventive well abandonment method consists in placing an insulating cement plug in a casting string above a production horizon. With view to isolating the productive formation, cross-flows which are located outside of the sources thereof and between-casting pressures, a system which consists of artificial covers and plug insulating screens and prevents formation fluids from coming out on a aground surface is developed. For forming a process sump, the top of an additional cement plug is arranged at 2-10 m below the lower limit of a process window and an artificial fluid-tight cover made of a plugging material whose chemical composition and physical properties are identical to a plastic rock material is formed.
