PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a failure monitoring unit, which can be used even during actual communication and can make an appropriate determination. SOLUTION: The failure monitoring unit is equipped with: a log acquisition section for acquiring a log file in which log information having operation information indicating operation of a device to be monitored is recorded; an extraction section for extracting log information indicating that failure has occurred, by referring to the operation information included in the log information recorded in the log file; a severity determination section for determining a severity according to the type of the failure indicated in the extracted log information; and a determination section for determining failure by cumulating severities obtained as a result of determination by the severity determination section for a predetermined period of time to obtain a cumulative amount.
