PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image retrieval system capable of evaluating the similarity of a photographed image, without being affected by a disturbance, a shift in the photographed image and the like, and capable of finding precisely positional information of an image photographing terminal. SOLUTION: This image retrieval system is provided with the image photographing terminal 10 for acquiring the photographed image with a photographed landscape in order to present a candidate of a current position using the photographed image, and a server 20 for judging the similarity of the photographed image photographed by the image photographing terminal 10 to the photographed image held on a database 30, for specifying the similarity-recognized photographed image held on the database 30, as a candidate image, and for reply-transmitting the positional information held on the database 30 correlatedly with the specified candidate image, to the image photographing terminal 10.
