The method involves wrapping the peripheral surface (11) of a support (10) of a measuring tape (1) and supporting the measuring tape on the peripheral surface at a distance from the peripheral surface. A clamping force is exerted on the measuring tape to held the measuring tape in the friction. The clamping force is distributed uniformly over the peripheral surface. The support of the measuring tape is cancelled starting from a fixed point (P) and the measuring tape is applied to the peripheral surface of the support while maintaining the clamping force. An independent claim is included for a device for assembling tape measure on peripheral surface of support.
