The cells are driven and displayed by the number of the display pulses. A weighting counter 1202 of this display device successively counts the signals of the respective sub-fields and shifts the level of the binary codes from an adder by one bit each at the time of adding the signals with the adder. A field integral luminance signal which is the adder output is inputted to a shift register. The integral luminance signals of, for example, 8 fields are added and a contrast control signal 1204 is obtd.
