PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to reduce electric power consumption at the time of display by changing the number of display pulses for cell driving in accordance with the information corresponding to the number of cells of a display section before cell driving in the state of maintaining the ratio of the weighting levels of the display period of sub-fields approximately constant and driving and displaying the cells by the number of these display pulses. SOLUTION: The number of the display pulses for cell driving is changed in accordance with the information corresponding to the number of the cells of the display section, which is in an operation state corresponding to a luminance signal level detected from an image signal, before the cell driving in the state of maintaining the ratio of the weighting levels of the display period of the sub-fields approximately constant. The cells are driven and displayed by the number of the display pulses. A weighting counter 1202 of this display device successively counts the signals of the respective sub-fields and shifts the level of the binary codes from an adder by one bit each at the time of adding the signals with the adder. A field integral luminance signal which is the adder output is inputted to a shift register. The integral luminance signals of, for example, 8 fields are added and a contrast control signal 1204 is obtd. |
