PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a steam heat source heat exchanger capable of smoothly discharging drain water by adopting a heat exchange system that make the flow directions of steam and drain water opposed each other within a main pipe. SOLUTION: A steam header 5 provided with a steam inlet 2 and a drain outlet 4 is horizontally installed, and a plurality of main pipes 7 with the upper ends closed with caps 6 or the like are installed perpendicularly to the steam header 5. Steam is thereby supplied into the main pipes 7 from below. Steam in the main pipe 7 is condensed by directly radiating heat into air in direct contact with the main pipe 7 or air in contact through a fin 8 mounted to the main pipe 7, and the condensed drain water flows down along the internal wall of the main pipe 7 and is stored in the steam header 5 and then discharged from the drain outlet 4. Steam is condensed in each main pipe 7 to cause a sudden decrease of volume and the drop of internal pressure of the main pipe 7. Only the consumed amount of steam is thereby supplied to the main pipe 7 from the steam header 5, and drain water is smoothly discharged without the intrusion of steam not completely consumed in the other main pipes 7.
