PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide method and tape for detecting moisture in water-absorbing material which can detect moisture in the water-absorbing material and its surface moisture using a simple constitution. SOLUTION: In this method, the detector tape 100 attached to a building component 7, that is a measuring object, is equipped with nonconductive and hydrophobic substrate 3, a layer of adhesive 4, and three open copper wires 1, 2 and 5. The open copper wire 1 is coated with insulating layer 11, while open copper wires 2 and 5 are coated with a water-permeable protective layer 6. A pair of probes 9, 10 passing through those open copper wires 1, 2 is given and allowed to penetrate into the building component 7. Each of the open copper wires 1, 2, 5 is connected to a sensor unit 14, respectively. By impressing a voltage on both first pair of the open copper wires 1, 2 and second open copper wires 2, 5 from this sensor unit 14 via diodes 20 and 21 monitoring the flowing current, the moisture in the building component 7 and its surface moisture can be detected.
