PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To extend an operation range for pre-mixed compression ignited combustion while suppressing torque reduction during diffusion combustion, in a diesel engine selectively performing one of the diffusion combustion and pre-mixed compression ignited combustion. SOLUTION: This diesel engine 10 selectively performing one of the diffusion combustion and pre-mixed compression ignited combustion includes a porous injector 13 formed with a plurality of nozzle ports 13a injecting fuel into a cylinder 11.
