摘要 The invention relates to a particle accelerator (10, 100, 102, 104, 106), in particular an electron accelerator, for generating a bunched particle beam, and to a method for operating such a particle accelerator (10, 100, 102, 104, 106). The particle accelerator (10, 100, 102, 104, 106) comprises an HF source (14) and a directional coupler (20) for branching an HF power of the HF source (14) of an HF side (32) to at least one first and one second HF power coupler (26a, 26b) of a cavity side (34) for coupling HF power in at least one accelerator cavity (18). According to the invention, on the cavity side (34) between the directional coupler (20) and the second HF power coupler (26b), a non-reciprocal phase shifter (22, 30) is interposed, and on the HF side (32) a HF load (16) is connected to the directional coupler (20). The non-reciprocal phase shifter (22, 30) is configured to conduct a reflected HF wave of the second HF power coupler (26) in a phase-delayed manner in the direction of the directional coupler (20) such that a destructive interference of the reflected HF waves of the first and second power coupler (26a, 26b) in the directional coupler (20) in the direction of the HF source (14) on the HF side (32) is obtained.
