In order to optimise the braking operation, via a control command (R)-effected adjustment of the electrical angular speed (ωS) of the rotary field of the stator (8), the instantaneous difference ((ωR – ωS)Ist) between an instantaneous electrical angular speed (ωR) of the rotor (7) and the adjusted electrical angular speed (ωS) of the rotary field of the stator (8) is controlled to a desired value ((ωR - ωS) Soll) defined by the control unit (14) or determined by the control unit (14).
