PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel oligonucleotide that includes a specific base sequence and is useful as a tissue fibrillation suppressor for treating and preventing the diseases, accompanied by deposition of extracellular matrix or the like and is further useful for treating and preventing glomerulonephritis, glomerulosclerosis, cardiac failure and hepatocirrhosis. SOLUTION: This novel oligonucleotide contains a base sequence represented by formula I or formula II and has an action to suppress the expression of an mRNA of an intercellar plasminogen activator inhibitor treated with 1-type (PAI-1) to form (PAI-1mRNA) to reduce the biosynthesis of PAI-1, and is useful for treating, and preventing, a disease accompanied by a deposition of an extracellular matrix or the like, then is used as a suppressor of tissue fibrillation and a therapeutic agent, a preventing agent, etc., for glomerulonephritis, glomeruloscrelosis, fibrosis of interstitial tissue, fibrosis of lung, cardiac failure, cirrhosis of the liver or angiitis. The oligonucleotide is obtained by screening a compound suppressing an increase of PAI-1 expression by an action of angiotensin II and TGF-βin a rat mesangial cell.
