PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of recycling an asbestos-containing building material sorted and recovered in a destruction site as a mortar admixture having hydraulic property by firing the asbestos-containing building material without crushing/pulverizing to suppress scattering and flying of the asbestos, and firing at a limited firing temperature while regulating the crushing particle size after firing. SOLUTION: The method of recycling the asbestos-containing building material is carried out by firing the asbestos-containing building material at 800-1,000°C without pulverizing to convert asbestos to non-asbestos to practically eliminate the effect of the asbestos on living body and pulverizing while adjusting the particle size to utilize as the admixture for mortar. The asbestos-containing building material preferably contains no crystalline silica. An admixture for mortar is obtained by using the admixture for mortar which is obtained by the method of recycling the asbestos-containing building material as a base material and blending with an inorganic or mineral based material and an organic material.
