PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that when a head unit for serial printing and a head unit for line printing are equipped in advance, and respective head units are interchanged and mounted on a fitting part, maintenance and keeping the performance of the head unit which is not used is difficult and its operability is poor. SOLUTION: The head unit 10 comprising a recording head 4 with a nozzle row in which a plurality of nozzles for delivering liquid are arranged is equipped. A first conveying path 5 for conveying a paper in approximately the same direction as the direction along the nozzle row of the recording head 4, and a second conveying path 6 for conveying the paper in approximately orthogonal direction to the direction along the nozzle row of the recording head 4, are equipped. When the paper is conveyed through the first conveying path 5, the recording head 4 is scanned in the direction orthogonal to the paper conveying direction to form an image by a serial printing mode, and when the paper is conveyed through the second conveying path 6, the recording head 4 is stopped and the paper is conveyed to form the image by a line printing mode.
