PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid level detector capable of being mounted to a cylinder body, in a proper attitude. SOLUTION: A head section 50 comprises a light-projecting/receiving unit 60 having a light-projecting/receiving plane 66 for performing a light-projecting/receiving operation of light, and a body case 70 for storing the light-projecting/receiving unit 60. The body case 70 comprises positioning walls 87 and 97, a guide section, a rubber object 110, and attaching openings 99A and 99B. When the head section 50 is attached to the cylinder body 10, the body case 70 is positioned, with respect to the cylinder body 10 by the positioning walls 87 and 97. At this time, the rubber object 110 energizes the light-projecting/receiving unit 60, guided by a guide section toward the cylinder body 10. As a result, a light-projecting/receiving axis 67, formed on the light-projecting/receiving plane 66 at the tip of the light-projecting/receiving unit, abuts against the outer peripheral surface 10A of the cylinder body 10.
