PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper sheets determination device and a paper sheets determination method enabling determination as to whether a thin tape is attached to paper sheets.SOLUTION: A paper sheets determination device comprises a recording part, an edge point extraction part, a residual edge point extraction part, and an analysis part. The storage part stores a reference edge point that is an edge point within a range in a density gradient direction along the longitudinal direction of legitimate paper sheets included in a photographed image of the legitimate paper sheets. The edge point extraction part extracts edge points within a range in the density gradient direction along the longitudinal direction of the paper sheets to be determined from a photographed image of the paper sheets to be determined. The residual edge point extraction part extracts, from the edge points extracted by the edge point extraction part, residual edge points by removing an edge point corresponding to the reference edge point and edge points in which pixels not included in the photographed image of the paper sheets are estimated to be generated due to a bright area. The analysis part analyzes whether a tape is attached to the paper sheets to be determined, on the basis of the residual edge points.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1 |
