PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To avoid a situation that a noise image appears at a region out of a manuscript by influence of an external light regardless of a condition of a ground of the manuscript when scanning of the manuscript is performed while a cover of an original platen is opened.SOLUTION: In an image reading device, a light emission control unit alternatively switches status of a light emission unit between a reference state and a comparison state in which an off state and an on state are alternatively selected as the comparison state, a temporary region dividing unit 852 divides a manuscript region pixel from a region pixel out of the manuscript on the basis of difference between a first image data string in the reference state and a second image data string in the previous comparison state and divides the manuscript region pixel from the region pixel out of the manuscript on the basis of difference between the second image data string and the previous first image data string, and a main region dividing unit 854 divides a pixel which is divided as the manuscript region pixel by at least one of two temporary region dividing processes as the manuscript region pixel.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
