PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To deal with halfway replacement of ink cartridge by writing an identification code to an TD provided on an ink cartridge in addition to type information. SOLUTION: A residual quantity of ink operating section 2 reads out the ID 10 of an ink cartridge 1 fixed to a printer and, at the time of printing, the residual quantity of ink corresponding to an ID code included in that ID 10 is read out from a residual quantity of ink memory section 4 based on the ID code. When the corresponding residual quantity of ink is not stored at the memory section 4, ink capacity of that type is read out from a basic data memory section 3 based on the type information included in the ID 10. A new residual quantity of ink is determined, as required, based on the number of ink dots counted at an ink dot counting section 5 a residual quantity of ink read out from the memory section 4 or an ink capacity read out from the basic data memory section 3. |
