This invention provides a filter for diesel exhaust gas purification, comprising a metal foil and a filter sheet alternately stacked on top of each other. The metal foil has been molded into a wave form in section and has a herringbone shape in its surface. The filter sheet is formed of a nonwoven fabric of a metal or ceramic or a foamed metal. The filter for diesel exhaust gas purification has a honeycomb structure in its section. A flow passage defined by the metal foil and the filter sheet has at least one bend which is bent in an exhaust gas flow direction. In a specific embodiment, a stainless foil is molded by a roll with gears into a metal foil (10). A stainless steel nonwoven fabric (20) is fabricated as a filter sheet and is put on top of the metal foil (10). The assembly is wound to form a cylindrical filter (100) for exhaust gas purification, having a honeycomb structure. Separately, a 1% iridium catalyst is prepared and is slurried followed by supporting on the filter (100).
