PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for the production of glass, in which the reduction of reduction-sensitive components of the glass is decreased and preferably avoided in the production of a high refractive index glass having a high refractive index of at least 1.7. SOLUTION: The reduction of reduction-sensitive components of the glass is decreased and preferably avoided by introducing an oxidizing agent into a refiner and/or a melt crucible/a homogenization unit.
