PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain space diversity effect by using a microwave signal of a single polarized wave in such a microwave radio communication system that one of two fixed station is restricted in the number of antennas. SOLUTION: A microwave radio transmitting and receiving device is used for a second fixed station restricted in the number of antennas to be single and a first fixed station of the radio communication system performing radio communication using microwaves, The microwave radio transmitting and receiving device includes: a plurality of reception processing means for receiving microwave signals arriving at corresponding antennas; a transmission processing means for generating a signal of radio frequency from data to be transmitted; a changeover switch 211 which transmits the signal of radio frequency obtained by the transmission processing means to an antenna specified according to a switching control signal specifying one of the plurality of antennas 401<SB>A1</SB>and 401<SB>A2</SB>for radio transmission by the antenna; and a switching control means 212 for generating the switching control signal specifying the antenna corresponding to a selected reception signal in synchronism with selection of reception signals obtained by the plurality of reception processing means respectively and inputting the switching control signal to the changeover switch.
