The applicator (1) has a carrier structure (1.3) and a bar (1.2) guided opposite to the structure, where a pressure unit (1.1) for labels is provided at an end of the bar. The bar has a magnetic unit (1.51) that is combined with a magnetic unit (1.4) of the structure to produce a force acting in a longitudinal direction of the bar. One of the magnetic units is connected with a control unit (1.7) to control the force exerted on the pressure unit by the magnetic units. One of the magnetic units has a coil. A measuring device is provided for determining the force exerted on the pressure unit. An independent claim is also included for a method for labeling objects.
