The sound absorbing element has a self supporting rigid base plate (1) made of timber product or a physically similar material. The base plate has plate holes opened on both sides, which are passing through the base plate from upper to the lower main surface, particularly distributed evenly on the main surfaces. A cover plate (2) is arranged over an upper surface of the base plate in layers, where the cross section of the connecting holes in the visible upper surface of the cover plate is smaller than the cross section of the plate holes in the base plate. An independent claim is also included for a method for manufacture of sound absorbing element.
