PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a powder for a magnetic member, which has excellent moldability and is not easily oxidized; a powder compact which is obtained from the powder; and a magnetic member which is suitable as a material for a magnetic body such as a rare earth magnet.SOLUTION: Each magnetic particle 1 that constitutes the powder for a magnetic material is composed of less than 40% by volume of a hydrogen compound 3 of a rare earth element and the balance being iron and an iron-containing substance 2 that contains an iron-boron alloy containing iron and boron. Phases of the hydrogen compound 3 of a rare earth element are dispersed in a phase of the iron-containing substance 2. The surface of each magnetic particle 1 is provided with an oxidation preventing layer 4 that has low oxygen permeability coefficient. Since the phases of the iron-containing substance 2 are uniformly present in each magnetic particle 1, the powder has excellent moldability and the density of a powder compact can be easily increased. Since each magnetic particle 1 comprises the oxidation preventing layer 4, a newly formed surface that is formed on each magnetic particle 1 during the molding is not easily oxidized and thus deterioration of the magnetic phase due to the presence of an oxide can be suppressed. |
