PROCESS FOR PRODUCING N-METHYLMORPHOLINE

PURPOSE: A process for producing N-methylmorpholine (NMM), an intermediate of N-methylmorpholine N-oxide (NMMO), used as one of solvents for producing rayon, is provided to obtain NMM in a high yield by using metal catalysts made by impregnating Ni, Cu and Cr into a supporter. CONSTITUTION: NMM is obtained by reacting diethyleneglycol with methylamine and hydrogen in the presence of Ni-Cu-Cr catalysts impregnated into a supporter, preferably alumina. The metal catalysts comprises the steps of: impregnating metal salts preferably comprising 75 mole% of Ni, 23 mole% of Cu and 2 mole% of Cr into alumina; removing extra moisture; leaving it for 10-48 hrs; and drying it at 70-120°C.
