PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer and a printing method capable of storing an image taken by a digital camera or the like in a general purpose memory device such as a photomagnetic disk type AV deck or the like in a form of image data. SOLUTION: A printer has a first input port 112 for inputting image data, a printing part 12 for converting image data to printing data to print the same, a recording signal forming part 13 for forming a recording signal consisting of an image display signal and an image storing signal, an output port 113 for outputting the recording signal to an external recording apparatus, a second input port 114 for receiving the image storing signal in the recording signal stored in the external recording apparatus, a restoring part 14 for restoring the image storing signal received by the second input port to image data and a restored image data transfer part 15 for transferring the image data restored by the restoring part to the printing part.
