PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a small-size ZIF(zero insertion force) type socket having such durability as to withstand a large number of shifts of a slider. SOLUTION: This ZIF type IC socket comprises a base housing assembly 10 housing a large number of contacts, and a cover housing assembly 40 slidable on the base housing assembly 10. Tool insertion holes 65, 85 are respectively formed in a metal support plate 60 of the base housing assembly 10 and a metal support plate 80 of the cover housing assembly 40. By inserting a plate- like tool 99 through the tool insertion holes 65, 85 and rotating the tool 99, the cover housing assembly 40 is relatively moved. Because application points of the tool insertion holes 65, 85 abutted on the tool 99 are arcuate projecting parts 75, 76, 95, 96, force from the tool 99 can be transmitted to the base housing assembly 10 and the cover housing assembly 40 without causing a recess, a break or the like in the tool insertion holes 65, 85. Accordingly, the ZIF type IC socket has high durability.
