The invention increases the electrical wire press-bonding force of the contact and obtain a compact electrical contact in an electrical contact and a method for press-bonding such an electrical contact to an electrical wire. When the insulation engaging arms 12a and 12b are press-bonded to an electrical wire 50, the respective facing edges 38a and 38b contact each other, and as press-bonding proceeds, the facing edges 38a and 38b move in opposite directions as indicated by the arrows M and M' while making sliding contact with each other. Since the insulation engaging arms 12a and 12b are tapered from the tip end portions 40a and 40b to the root portions, the insulation engaging arms 12 move in opposite directions in the axial direction of the electrical wire 50 while making sliding contact with each other, with the tip end portions 40a and 40b describing portions of a spiral track along the outer circumference of the electrical wire 50. As a result, the insulation engaging arms 12 are formed into an integral unit, and are strongly fastened by press-bonding to the electrical wire 50.
