PURPOSE: A power supply device and a control method thereof are provided to prevent electrification accidents by cutting off the power supply when a frame ground electrode is not grounded. CONSTITUTION: A power supply device converts a commercial AC power to a DC power and includes a switch(14), a ground contact detector(30), and a controller(40). The switch is implemented at a power supply line positioned between power input and output terminals and switches on/off the power supplied from the power input terminal. The ground contact detector detects whether a frame ground electrode is connected to an external ground potential point. The controller blocking the power supplied from the power input terminal to the power output terminal when the frame ground electrode is not connected to the external ground potential.
