A side air-bag with side crash sensor arrangement

A side air-bag (4) is provided to be inflated in the event that a side impact should occur in a motor vehicle. The air-bag is to protect an occupant of the vehicle. The air-bag (4) has a controllable deployment characteristic. A central processing unit (6) provides signals to control deployment of the air-bag. The processing unit (6) is associated with a side crash sensor arrangement (9,10) to provide one or more signals to the processor unit indicative of parameters of a side crash or anticipated side crash. The air-bag can thus be deployed in an appropriate manner depending upon the nature of the side crash.
