PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology for comparing routes based on shapes when a plurality of routes are searched. SOLUTION: This navigation system compares the routes not using a travel time or a travel distance but using similarity (correlativity) in the shapes of the routes when comparing the routes. When searching a detour route to avoid congestion, for instance, similarity in the shape of the searched detour route and a present guided route is obtained. In the case of small similarity, the detour route is adopted to resume guidance, and in the case of large similarity, guidance is continued on the original route without adopting the detour route.
