PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control method of an image reading apparatus and an image forming apparatus capable of building up a copy system without keeping a user awaited in front of the image forming apparatus when the user instructs execution of copy processing. SOLUTION: When an instruction discrimination section 16 receives a shift instruction to a copy mode entered from an operation/display section 14, an image forming apparatus control section 17 transmits a release instruction for instruction release of power saving to an image forming apparatus being a candidate of an output destination managed by an image forming apparatus management section 15 via a communication section 12 and thereafter the operation/display section 14 accepts an operation instruction in the copy mode.
