The predominately (R)-(-) isomer of 1-alken-3-ol compounds of the formula: where R¹ is a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group containing from 1 to about 12 carbon atoms, and R² is hydrogen, are most effective attractants for mosquitoes.
