PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a soft magnetic thin film of high Bs and good soft magnetic characteristics, along with a magnetic recording head using the same. SOLUTION: In a thin film magnetic head 10, a lower magnetic pole 16 and an upper magnetic pole 24 are laminated through an insulation layer 20. A back gap 27 where the lower magnetic pole 16 and the upper magnetic pole 24 contact each other is formed at a rear end. A magnetic gap 30 is formed at the tip opposite to a medium surface, with a coil 22 formed which winds a back gap 27 by a plurality of times. A soft magnetic thin film 25 comprising an electrolytic plating film crystal-oriented in (110) plane, with FeCo having such composition as represented by FexCo1-x(60≤x≤75 wt.%) while crystal structure is bcc structure, is formed in the layer close to the magnetic gap 30 of the upper magnetic pole 24.
