The method involves providing materials from a number of materials within a predetermined time interval. A surface of a substrate is coated with the respective provided materials below respective surface coatings. The surface coatings are hardened by ultraviolet (UV)-light. A property of each produced coating is determined, where the produced coatings have a laminar and continuous extension of 25 centimeter /2 that runs parallel to the surface of the substrate. The substrate is made of a material that is selected from a group having wood, metal, glass, ceramics and plastic. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for automatically implementing high-throughput tests of materials for surface coatings (2) an application of a method and a device for implementing high-throughput tests of materials for surface coatings.
