CPP-GMR (GIANT MAGNETORESISTANCE EFFECT) HEAD AND METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that a magnetic domain control layer is chipped off due to a lift off process utilizing a CMP in creating a CPP-GMR (giant magnetorsistance effect) head thereby a reproducing head is hardly created at high stability. SOLUTION: The upper part of a lower magnetic shield 10 is provided with a CPP magnetorsistance effect film 11 and both sides of an intermediate layer 32 and free layer 31 of the CPP magnetorsistance effect film 11 are provided with a refill insulation film 12 and a magnetic domain control layer 13. The side wall of the refill insulation film 12 is provided with a side wall protective film 17 to regulate the height of the magnetic domain control layer 13 in the upper part of the free layer 31. The height of the magnetic domain control layer 13 and the refill insulation film 12 is made higher than the top surface of the free layer 31 in order to increase the thickness of the magnetic domain control layer 13. The top surface of the free layer 31, the magnetic domain control layer 13 and the refill insulation film 12 is provided with a magnetic shield ground film 19 and the upper part thereof is provided with an upper magnetic shield 14.
