<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To preferentially output a signal from a pixel corresponding to a focus detection region. <P>SOLUTION: In a photoelectric conversion section 10 including a plurality of pixels 11 arrayed two-dimensionally, a pixel corresponding to a preset focus detection region includes a focus detection pixel. A vertical shift register circuit 14 and a vertical drive circuit 16 are capable of preferentially selecting a row of the pixel corresponding to the focus detection region from the pixels 11 of the photoelectric conversion section 10. A horizontal shift register circuit 18 is capable of preferentially selecting a signal corresponding to a column of the pixel corresponding to the focus detection region among signals read from pixels of the selected row by a read circuit 19.
