At least one electrically conductive sensor structure (11) comprising a detection area is arranged in a gripping area of the steering wheel (11), said detection area is designed to detect a modification of a capacitive coupling of the sensor structure (11) which is to be detected, with the surroundings and/or a reference electrode such that, the presence of a human hand (16) in the gripping area of the steering wheel (10) can be recognized, said steering wheel (10) comprises at least one electrically conductive shielding element (14) which causes the sensor device to be shielded with respect to the disturbing capacitive coupling by components of the steering wheel (10), said shielding element (14) being impinged upon during the detection of the modification of the capacitive coupling of at least one sensor structure (11) by means of a defined, electric potential (UAE) which at least partially tracks a potential applied to the sensor structure (11) during the detection of the modification of the capacitive coupling.
